How Families Can Coordinate Household Help for an Aging Parent

Household tasks add up. A clear list and one point of contact make the whole process calmer for everyone.

Non-medical household-service coordination. Not a home health agency or medical provider.

For a medical emergency, immediate safety concern, suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation, call 9-1-1 or your local emergency or protective-services agency. See Emergency Resources.

Start With a Written List

Write down the tasks that matter most this month. Cleaning, mowing, laundry, and a few small repairs are a good place to start.

Ask your parent which tasks they want help with. Their choices come first.

Agree on Who Communicates

Decide together who will talk with providers and who will be copied on updates. Written permission keeps this simple.

We only discuss a senior's request with family members when the senior has authorized it.

Confirm Details With the Provider

Independent local providers confirm their own pricing, availability, qualifications, service scope, and scheduling.

Your family stays free to select, decline, change, or discontinue any provider at any time.
